Since 1989, it has welcomed travellers, scuba divers, researchers, artists, and families who seek a deeper connection to Banda’s history, culture and everyday life. Overlooking the inlet and the iconic Gunung Api, the hotel offers a peaceful place to rest, reflect, and experience the islands at an unhurried pace.

was founded by the late Des Alwi, a respected historian and guardian
of Banda’s heritage.

Des Alwi was a passionate photographer and throughout his life worked tirelessly to preserve the unique culture, heritage and beauty of the Banda Islands

Discover Banda Naira

It is said that Christopher Columbus was searching for the Spice Islands of Banda Naira and the Moluccas when he discovered America instead in 1492.

Portuguese Captain Antonio de Abreu, arrived in Banda in 1512, using a Malay pilot as guide. They were the first European strangers to come searching for the nutmeg. After subduing Malacca Afonso de Albuquerque sent him with the first Portuguese squadron to the Moluccas to find the spice islands of Banda Naira.
